How do clear aligners work?

From a scan of your mouth we plan every tooth movement digitally, from the current position to the final one. That plan produces a sequence of clear aligners; each one delivers a small, controlled movement.

They are removable: you take them out to eat and to clean your teeth, which avoids the dietary restrictions and brushing difficulties that come with brackets.

Does it work for every case?

For most crowding, spacing and alignment corrections, yes. Severe skeletal malocclusions may need a different approach, alone or combined. That is determined by the study, not by a catalogue.

The part that depends on you

The aligner only works while it is in. Treatment requires wearing it around 22 hours a day. It is the single factor that most affects whether the planned timeline is met.

Before moving any tooth we check that the gums are healthy and there are no active caries. Moving teeth on diseased gums accelerates bone loss.

  • Simulated result

You see the full path and the final position before starting.

  • Discreet

Clear and removable: your appearance does not change during treatment.

  • Easier hygiene

Removed for brushing, so the risk of caries and gingivitis is lower than with brackets.

How we run orthodontic treatment in Marbella

Before we move a single tooth we check there are no active caries and no gum disease. Moving teeth on diseased gums accelerates bone loss, so that order is not negotiable.

From the scan we plan the full path and show you the simulation: you see the starting position, the final one and the steps in between before committing. And we are straightforward about the part that depends on you: the aligner only works while it is in, around 22 hours a day.

When treatment ends we fit a retainer. Without one, teeth tend to drift back, which turns the treatment into an expense with an expiry date.

  • Caries and gum check before treatment starts.
  • Full path simulated before the aligners are made.
  • Retention included in the treatment plan.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about this treatment

01 How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?

Around 22 hours a day. They come out to eat and to brush. It is the factor that most determines whether the planned timeline is met.

02 Will people notice them?

They are clear and fit closely to the tooth, so they go unnoticed in normal interaction. There may be a slight speech adjustment in the first few days.

03 Are clear aligners suitable for my case?

For most crowding, spacing and alignment corrections, yes. Severe skeletal malocclusions may need a different approach. That is determined by the initial study.

04 What happens when treatment finishes?

A retainer is fitted, fixed or removable. Without retention teeth tend to drift back: the retention phase is not optional.
